Personal Best
A film about disability and chronopolitics prompted by the Commonwealth Wealth Games, Birmingham 2022
Watch “Personal Best” A beautiful piece of film making and the best thing (IMHO) to come out of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, 2022.
People in everyday working striving for control of their lives and dreams. Advocacy and action to be your own person on your own terms.
Layered stories, images, text, music from Joe Summers, and all for some reason reminding me of the Radio Ballads by Parker / MacColl / Seeger all those years ago.
For me, underlying it all is the fight for time. Chronopolitics although no one uses that term. This is plain-talking Birmingham. Fighting for space and time to speak, act, choose, be yourself.
Time is not to be valued, controlled, and grudgingly allocative by those in power proud of their busy diaries.
Time is not to be measured in the seconds required to exchange information, access or deliver a service.
Time is to be savoured, shared, the channel for creating relationships, making dreams possible.
